I would have to say that out of all the shots I’ve taken, Beach House is one of my favorites. I’ve taken this image and printed off a 16x20 that hangs matted and framed on my living room wall. The story behind this image is really not much of a story at all. Back before my son started kindergarten, he and I would go out for morning walks. One of our favorite places to go was down by the water, a place called Crescent Beach.
I had only been actively doing photography for about a year at this point. I traveled everywhere with my camera bag strapped to my back. It was cold and we had just experienced an unusual snow storm (I say it was unusual because we are located in Vancouver, BC where snow is not extremely common). My son was having a blast making snowballs and I was avidly capturing his enthusiasm with my camera.
We were wrapping up our outing when I heard a noise that caught my attention. I looked over my shoulder to see where it had come from and out of the corner of my eye, I glimpsed this abandoned home. I quickly snapped a few shots and packed up my camera. When I arrived back home and loaded my pictures onto the computer, I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome.
