Setting Up Your Photography Business
As we continue to discuss setting up your photography business we will next take a look at the type of equipment to buy as well as what types of things to look for in a photolab if that is the route you choose to go.
Equipment
What type of equipment you use will largely depend on what type of budget you are working with. Other factors would be issues such as what type of space do you have to work with and what kind of shoots you plan to do. Make a list of all the photographic equipment you will need for the year. Items such as cameras, lenses, tripods, filters, flash units, studio lighting, stands and backdrops. Remember, don’t go over the top. Buy good quality, durable equipment that you will use. For equipment that you won’t use on a regular basis, consider rental sources.
Photolab Arrangements
Consider how you will be producing your photographic prints. Will you invest in proper printing machines and print them yourself, or will you go with a photolab? It is important that when you select a photolab, they are consistent and reliable. The choice you make could mean all the difference in the success of your business. Before you begin your business experiment with different labs. Ask yourself, “How is the quality of work? Do they meet promised deadlines? Are they able to complete a complex order correctly?" One photolab I have had fantastic success with is WHCC.
