Quick Tip -- The Magic Hour

Ever wonder how professional photographers get such amazing colors in their work? It must be photoshop right. Not exactly. There is a time known to photographers as the magic hour. The most magical light of the day can be found during this time. It happens from a half-hour before sunrise to a half-hour afterward. Miss this magic hour, and you miss the best possibilities for memorable photos. As well, fog and mist are much more likely at sunrise than sunset. These elements can sometimes combine to produce stunning photographs.

There is an old saying in photography: “f-8 and be there.” Essentially this means that the best photos are a product of being in the right place and the right time. The technical aspects are secondary.

The image “Hope For a New Day” was taken in Jasper, Alberta. The sun had just started to rise and the clouds were starting to pull away after a huge downpour. That morning the sky was magnificent shades of pink, purple, blue and yellow. “Hope For A New Day” can be found in our shop under the landscape category.
