A Little About Me

Photography has always been an interest of mine since I was young. I remember pretending to take pictures with an old point and shoot camera empty of the film. It wasn’t until I had my son that I actually invested the money for my first “real” camera. As soon as I lay my hands on that Minolta Maxxum STsi there was no prying it loose. Since then, I have gone digital and now shoot with a Canon.

The great thing about photography is that it can be a great compliment to other interests. I have an intense passion for travel and the great outdoors. The beauty of creation. . . nature. . . invokes such a curiosity in me I can’t help but explore new and exciting places to capture those moments of unimaginable perfection. Consequently, nature and anything pertaining to it factors significantly in many of my photos. Other sources of inspiration include people (I am fascinated by that small glimpse you get of someone that makes you ponder the wider context of their life), unusual compositions and structure, as well as movement.

While my photos may not always be technically and compositionally perfect in the traditional sense, it is more important for me that they are able to evoke an emotional response or connection with those who see them. I don’t believe that photography is only about f/stops, shutter speeds, or equipment (it is important but I like to believe there’s more to it). For me, it’s about being alive . . . feeling . . . seeing. It’s about opening my mind, learning not only about the people, places and things around me, but also about myself. No matter what direction photography takes me, nature, with her endless colors, shapes and designs, is my inspiration. Creating from my heart (not just my mind) will always be my goal.
